What Motivates Me
Environmental exposures are constantly changing, and understanding these changes can bring us closer to knowing how they affect our health. I’m motivated to continue investigating and exploring environmental risk factors to reduce the burden of cancer, for everyone.”
At ACS since 2025
As an Associate Scientist in Data Analysis within Population Science, Marisa Wong, MPH, works with other American Cancer Society (ACS) researchers and outside collaborators to conduct statistical analyses using data from ACS's Cancer Prevention Studies, CPS-II and CPS-3.
Research focus and accomplishments
Before joining ACS, Wong's research focused on analyzing the association between socioecological risk factors (including animal contact) and gastrointestinal infections caused by bacteria such as Salmonella, Campylobacter, and E. coli. This work supported national, multi-state salmonella outbreak investigations linked to backyard poultry and small turtles with aims of reducing the frequency, severity, and duration of illness.
Wong is excited to bring her environmental health background to ACS, as she is interested in how the environment influences cancer outcomes.
