Giving hope a home in Chicago

Facing cancer is hard. Having to travel out of town for treatment can make it even harder. Hope Lodge communities provide free, temporary lodging for people facing cancer and their caregivers when treatment is far from home. Hope Lodge guests don’t just find a place to stay; they find a community of support and an emotional connection with others facing the same journey.

The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge network has 31 locations throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, with plans to expand the network in Chicago with the launch of an $82 million capital campaign.

About the American Cancer Society Chicago Hope Lodge

Bringing Hope Lodge to Chicago will benefit families and the community for generations to come as guests and their families seek to heal, overcome, and thrive after cancer. Donors and volunteers who support Hope Lodge create a legacy of survivorship.

Hope Lodge Chicago is slated to be a 6-story, ~60,000 square foot, 52-suite facility, with an endowment to sustain programming and building operations. This is made possible by the generosity and leadership of our anchor partner, University of Chicago Medicine, through a land gift in Hyde Park.

Our Hope Lodge Chicago community

Hope Lodge Chicago will be located near the University of Chicago’s NCI-Designed Cancer Center with other health care systems and clinics accessible in the surrounding area. Our Hyde Park site also connects guests to Metra transit, parks, museums, the lakefront, and grocery stores within walking distance.

Planned amenities:

  • Guest suites with private baths
  • Cancer Wellness Hub – offering programming to support physical activity, nutrition, social connection and stress management
  • Free on-site parking
  • Outdoor healing garden
  • Modern, fully equipped kitchens
  • Common lounges & dining
  • On-site laundry facilities with supplies
  • Meeting space
  • Reflection & meditation spaces
  • Fitness & activity spaces
  • ADA accessibility
