American Cancer Society Joseph S. and Jeannette M. Silber Hope Lodge

The Hope Lodge community in Cleveland opened in 1995 with 31 guest suites, common dining and recreation areas, and a full kitchen.

  • The Joseph S. and Jeanette M. Silber Hope Lodge facility consistently operates at 93% capacity, making it the busiest Hope Lodge community in the country with an average waiting list of 45 patients.
  • Construction of 11 new suites will provide the much-needed rooms to meet the lodging need for cancer patients and their caregivers.
  • The high-traffic dining and kitchen facilities are the most used areas of the facility and require expansion and renovation to accommodate increased resident needs.
  • Refurbishment of the original 31 guest suites, including private bathrooms is necessary to continue to provide a quality, comfortable, home-like experience for cancer patients and caregivers.
  • The increased operating cost of the expanded and renovated Lodge will be supported by the operational fund.

The capital campaign will fund the following expansion and improvements to the Cleveland Hope Lodge:

  • Add 11 new guest suites in a new wing along with two new common areas
  • Refurbish 31 existing guest suites
  • Refurbish the existing common area and add two new restrooms
  • Expand dining and kitchen facilities
  • Modernize existing kitchen pods
  • Add a guest orientation space
  • Refurbish the exterior garden area
  • Expand parking for residents

Support from Cleveland’s Premier Health Systems

“Helping patients with housing is critical to treating the whole person. Many of our patients travel here for care and we are proud to support them and their families during this time. This gift to Hope Lodge is an important way to ensure that the care our cancer patients deserve is accessible while maintaining many of the comforts of home during their visit with us.”
Edmund Sabanegh, Jr., MD, President, main campus and regional hospitals at Cleveland Clinic

“Hope Lodge provides an extremely valuable service to our patients and their families.  The facility is conveniently located for them and the lodge helps ease their stress during their treatment in multiple ways.”
Ted Teknos, MD, President and Scientific Director of UH Seidman Cancer Center

Lead Campaign Donors: Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, Cleveland Foundation, Fowler Family Foundation, Lincoln Electric and private donors.
