American Cancer Society elevates Louise Santosuosso as part of Northeast Leadership Team

The American Cancer Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Louise Santosuosso as Vice President focusing on new growth areas in New England. She took on this new role in January 2021 and reports directly to the Society’s area development leads.

Longtime teacher honored during second breast cancer battle

Karen Garvin, a 33-year English teacher at Central High School in Corinth, Maine, and a two-time breast cancer survivor, was honored during the school’s basketball games. In a moving tribute, Central cheerleaders also revealed the lengthy paper chain, comprised of the "Pink Links" they sold to collect donations for Garvin's Relay For Life of Penobscot County team.

New cancer research grant at Maine Medical Center Research Institute

The American Cancer Society, the largest non-government, not-for-profit funding source of cancer research in the United States, has approved funding for a new Maine-based research grant, a $792,000 investment, which started July 1, 2019. Michaela R. Reagan, PhD, based at Maine Medical Center Research Institute in Scarborough, is studying multiple myeloma cancer progression and metastasis.
