Danielle Smith, CFRE

Director of Philanthropy

Region covered: Colorado

Danielle began her professional career in the nonprofit sector by consulting small nonprofits and leading their efforts to raise needed funds through individual solicitations and special events, including golf tournaments, poker events, and VIP dinners. Prior to joining the American Cancer Society in March 2020, Danielle served as a Major Gift Officer for the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. In this role, she solicited individuals and worked on a campaign to support the Coalition’s efforts to provide housing, health care and supportive services for individuals experiencing homelessness. Personal loss fuels Danielle’s passion for working with the American Cancer Society. At the age of 15, she lost her beloved cousin to acute lymphocytic leukemia. The next year, her grandmother succumbed to breast cancer.

A Kentucky native, Danielle received her undergraduate degree from Western Kentucky University. After graduation, she served as an intern in the U.S. Senate and spent several years working in the political arena before moving to the mountain west to begin her nonprofit career. Danielle enjoys traveling, watching college basketball and spending quality time with her husband, Mike, and children, Trey and Lilly.
