The American Cancer Society (ACS) Center for Innovation in Cancer Research Training (CICRT) is committed to increasing the cancer workforce by providing training and support to high school and college students and post-baccalaureate individuals who want to learn more about cancer research.
These are our 3 CICRT programs. Follow the links to learn more about each specific program.
For high school students who:
- Are rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors with an interest in any STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) discipline or related field.
- Will be at least 16 years old by the start of the program
Focus
- Teaching and modeling cancer research principles and challenges
- Exposure to the breadth of careers in cancer research
- Development of a broad, diverse professional network
Duration of Research Training
2-week summer experience with yearlong career development and networking activities

For individuals with a bachelor's degree who are:
- Aspiring for a doctoral degree in any STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) discipline, health profession, or related field
Focus
- Individual plan for professional development and support services to prepare for a career in cancer research
- Mentored research with defined project/skill-building
- Travel to scientific meetings
- Support Services: Counseling, career services, group dynamics, test-taking skills
