COVID-19 and 2020 ACS Grants

We are aware of, and are monitoring, issues introduced by the COVID-19 pandemic that may impact the American Cancer Society (ACS) grant application process. See the updates below.

April 1, 2020 application submission deadlines. Electronic grant applications are still due on April 1, 2020, submitted through proposalCENTRAL. We have extended the deadline for the printed application to May 1, 2020, 5 pm EDT to allow applicants more time to get the required administrative signatures and perhaps have access to other needed resources.

If you anticipate challenges due to institution or office closures, please contact your ACS Program Office or the ACS Extramural Grants department by calling 404-329-7558 or by email: grants@cancer.org

Announcement of funding for 2020 grants. Because of the pandemic, the timeline for approval of new grants has been delayed. Applicants who submitted in October 2019 will be notified of the outcome from the Council's review no later than Monday, April 13, 2020.

COVID-19 effects on available grant funding. As with many businesses, it remains uncertain how the pandemic will affect the economy and donations to the American Cancer Society. This in turn may impact our ability to fund grants later in 2020 at the normal level, including those from the April 1 cycle. At this point, funding of grants at any level for the next cycle cannot be guaranteed.

We remain committed to funding the most innovative cancer research and training in the country to benefit cancer patients and their families. To read more about what the American Cancer Society is doing to carry on our lifesaving mission, see the CEO message from Gary Reedy.
