Depending on availability of special endowment funds, the American Cancer Society annually selects one or more of the top-ranked fellowships to be supplemented above the standard stipend.

Note: The 1-year fellowship has been eliminated. Resubmissions are grandfathered in and will be accepted.

Fellowship Allowances

  • $4,000/year fellowship allowance
  • In the last year, an additional $1,500 is added to the fellowship allowance for postdoctoral fellows (PFs) to attend the ACS Postdoctoral Fellows Symposium or a domestic scientific meeting.

New Parental Leave Option

As of January 2021, PFs may elect to take  up to 12 weeks paid maternity/paternity leave plus up to 12 weeks paid extension at the end of the grant for new parents, for births and adoptions.

The PF will not perform research during family leave but will continue to receive the ACS stipend/salary for up to 12 weeks (minimum of 4 weeks) of leave per year.

In addition, ACS will extend the end date of the postdoctoral fellowship as well as a fellowship supplement that's equivalent to the amount of time used for parental leave.

This new policy allows the PF to complete the full fellowship term and retain their stipend both while on leave and during the extension.
