Ian W. Bailey serves as Chief Communications Officer for the American Cancer Society (ACS). As leader of ACS enterprise communications and member of the Executive Team, Ian serves as a senior strategic adviser to the organization’s executive and volunteer leadership teams on reputation, communications issues, and risk-related matters. Additionally, Ian leads the reimagining of ACS’ strategic approach to integrated communications, encompassing the organization’s internal communications, executive communications, media relations, and issues management to support the organization’s goal of improving the lives of cancer patients and their families, while elevating ACS’ mission, reputation, and relevance to the nation and the world.

Prior to ACS, Ian was the Senior Vice President, Communications and Community at Qurate Retail Group, a Fortune 500, multi-brand retailer, and served as a member of the company’s global leadership team. Overseeing a global team that included corporate communications, crisis and issues management, financial communications, internal communications, corporate responsibility, community affairs, and consumer public relations, Ian led the transformation of the communications and community teams into an integrated strategic business function, and developed and implemented communications and public relations strategies to engage effectively with the company’s key internal and external stakeholders globally.

Ian has three decades of experience in public relations and communications, spanning corporate communications, internal communications, financial communications, investor relations, and issues management, with leading global agencies in the U.K. and the U.S., and as co-founder and Managing Partner of Capital C Partners, an independent business and communications strategy consultancy. Before joining Qurate, Ian served as the Vice President, Head of Communications and Public Relations at Abercrombie & Fitch Co., where he led internal and executive communications, media relations, crisis communications, and brand public relations.

Ian is a member of the Arthur W. Page Society, the world’s leading professional association for senior public relations and corporate communications executives and educators, serves on the Board of Trustees for the Institute for Public Relations, and is an adjunct professor in the public relations department at University of Florida’s award-winning College of Journalism and Communications. Ian holds a master’s degree in communications with a certificate in crisis communications from Ohio University’s Scripps College of Communication, and a bachelor’s degree in German with management studies from King’s College, University of London.
