ACS Prevention and Early Detection Guidelines

The ACS recommends that women undergo regular screening mammography for the early detection of breast cancer. 

These guidelines from the ACS recommend different surveillance strategies and options based on a woman's age, screening history, and other risk factors.

The ACS recommends that average-risk adults undergo regular screening starting at age 45, preferably with either a visual exam (most commonly, colonoscopy) or a high-sensitivity stool-based test. As a part of the screening process, all positive results on non-colonoscopy screening tests should be followed up with timely colonoscopy.

The American Cancer Society recommends that clinicians with access to high-volume, high-quality lung cancer screening and treatment centers should initiate a discussion about lung cancer screening with patients aged 55 to 74 years who have at least a 30-pack-year smoking history, currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years, and who are in relatively good health.
