Minor League Baseball (MiLB) has teamed up with the American Cancer Society to launch Cover Your Bases, a cancer prevention initiative. Cover Your Bases focuses on sun safety, eating healthy, staying active, and age-appropriate cancer screenings.

Many of the millions of skin cancer cases diagnosed annually could be prevented by protecting skin from excessive sun exposure. Our goal is to educate as many MiLB fans as possible about the importance of sun safety and provide teams in local markets the opportunity to raise funds for the American Cancer Society through turnkey programs throughout each season. Programs and fundraising opportunities include:

  • First pitch opportunities for survivors, researchers, etc.
  • On-field ceremony or event honoring survivors to close the season
  • Clubs host a 50/50 raffle
  • Creating a fan-based fundraising platform, pledging donation based on player/team performance (e.g., donate $X for every homerun, stolen base, etc.)
  • Game-used jersey or equipment auctions
  • Donating a percentage of merchandise sales or sun safety items from team store
  • Concession or ticket sales round-up
