David Veneziano

Executive Vice President and Operating Officer, California Division

David Veneziano is the executive vice president and operating officer of the American Cancer Society's California Division. David's career with the American Cancer Society began in 1975 in the Rhode Island Division when he was hired as an area director shortly after earning his master's degree in public administration from University of New Haven in Connecticut. David also holds a bachelor's of science degree in economics and finance from the University of Hartford in Connecticut. In 1979, he was appointed executive vice president (CEO) of the Alaska Division, American Cancer Society and was responsible for implementing cancer control and fundraising programs.

David joined the California Division in 1987 as assistant vice president of Field Services, responsible for statewide management of cancer control and fundraising programs. Until his promotion to chief executive officer in February of 2006, David held the position of chief operating officer of the California Division for a decade, overseeing all field operations, corporate communications, diversity plans, constituent relationship management, corporate outreach, volunteer and staff development, and international activities.

David has played a key role in tobacco control policy changes in Europe, Australia, and Asia. In Australia, he worked with the Australian Cancer Council to fight for legislation to ban smoking in public places, which was eventually approved by the Parliament. He was a member of ACS Global University and served as host to large-scale education sessions. ACS Global University shares the best ways to build capacity with non-governmental organizations and cancer organizations to fight cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service in other countries. David served as a member of the ACS, Inc. Transformation Steering Committee and co-led the Enterprise Innovation Team for the Society, charged with establishing and sustaining a culture of innovation within the Society. David served as a member of the Advisory Committee, Center for Tobacco Control and Education, University of California, San Francisco. David currently serves as the lead for the enterprise-wide Change Champions Program.

David's other interests include travel, hiking, live theater, music, health and fitness, and family. He lives in San Francisco.
