ACS IMPACT Research Professorship in Prostate Cancer

Letter of Intent Deadline: August 31, 2023
Application Deadline: October 16, 2023

Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer incidence among men in the United States and the second leading cause of cancer mortality. After decades of decline, the incidence of de novo metastatic prostate cancer diagnoses is increasing and alarmingly, Black men have more than twice as high a likelihood of death from prostate cancer than White men. The American Cancer Society (ACS) is committed to reducing the burden of prostate cancer and improving prostate cancer outcomes for all men by addressing its root causes.

To address the public health burden of prostate cancer, ACS has launched the IMPACT Initiative – Improving Mortality from Prostate Cancer Together. To bolster our strategic research efforts, ACS will fund an ACS IMPACT Research Professorship focused on prostate cancer research designed to reduce mortality and improve outcomes for all.

Priority will be given to applicants with demonstrated research experience in populations with adequate representation of Black men and research with great potential to reduce cancer mortality in Black men.

The ACS IMPACT Research Professorship in Prostate Cancer will follow the same guidelines and terms as all ACS Research Professor Grant applications. The endowed professor will receive $80,000 a year (direct costs only) for 5 years, with the opportunity to apply for a 5-year renewal. The funds are completely discretionary and meant to support a creative project or idea.

Interested professors should submit their curriculum vitae with a complete bibliography and a letter of intent (LOI) that briefly describes their seminal contributions to prostate cancer research. This information must be submitted using the standard Research Professor LOI template on ProposalCentral. Upon receipt, we will provide appropriate guidance either by telephone or email.
