"Global Cancer Statistics 2024: GLOBOCAN Estimates of Incidence and Mortality Worldwide for 34 Cancers in 186 Countries," is a scientific article published in the July 2026 issue of the American Cancer Society (ACS) flagship journal, CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians. The most up-to-date statistics are from 2024.
In 2024, approximately 21 million cancer cases were newly diagnosed and nearly 10 million people died from the disease worldwide. By 2050, the number of cancer cases is predicted to increase to 34 million based solely on projected population growth.
This Facts & Figures report provides an overview of the international cancer burden for selected cancers, including the estimated numbers of new cases and deaths by level of development.

Human Development Index (HDI)
A summary score used by the United Nations to measure the quality of life in a country. It’s used to rank countries into 4 tiers of human development, The closer a country’s score is to 1.0, the higher the overall level of human development. The score is based on:
- Health, measured by life expectancy at birth
- Education, measured by expected years of schooling for children and adults
- Standard of living, measured by the Gross National Income per person, adjusted based on purchasing power
