ACS Survivorship Care Guidelines App Overview

What is the objective of the ACS Survivorship Care Guidelines App project?

The goal of the ACS Survivorship Care Guidelines App is to help ensure optimal clinical follow-up care of adult post-treatment cancer survivors by providing easy access from your Apple smartphone to the ACS Cancer Survivorship Care Guidelines.

What are the ACS Cancer Survivorship Care Guidelines?

The ACS has developed evidence- and consensus-based cancer survivorship care guidelines to help primary care and other clinicians provide high-quality, comprehensive, coordinated clinical follow-up care to adult post-treatment cancer survivors to promote optimal health and quality of life.

Why are the ACS Cancer Survivorship Care Guidelines needed?

Cancer survivors need coordinated monitoring for cancer recurrence, screening and early detection of second primary cancers, assessment and management of potential physical and psychosocial effects of cancer and its treatment, counseling on health promotion strategies for nutrition, physical activity, tobacco cessation, and alcohol consumption, as well as coordination of care utilizing survivorship care plans, communication with other providers, and inclusion of caregivers.

What types of cancer are included in the ACS Cancer Survivorship Care Guidelines?

The ACS Cancer Survivorship Care Guidelines address the cancer survivorship care needs of breast (female only), colorectal, head and neck (ie, oral cavity, larynx, tongue, lip, and pharynx, although many principles apply to cancers of salivary glands, nasal and paranasal sinuses, and nasopharynx; not applicable to cancers of brain, thyroid, or esophagus), and prostate (male only) cancer survivors. The ACS Guidelines for Nutrition and Physical Activity for Cancer Survivors are also included.

The ACS Survivorship Care Guidelines App was developed to provide the ACS Cancer Survivorship Care Guidelines for the purpose of assisting medical providers in clinical decision making and are not intended for individual patient use.
