Climate Change and Cancer

Climate change has measurable impacts on every aspect of cancer control, from cancer prevention to survivorship.

Climate Change Impacts Cancer Control

The gray arrows on the left show how pollution from fossil fuels both cause climate change (through greenhouse gas emissions) and deter cancer prevention efforts (through release of carcinogens in communities). The blue and red  stripes at the top of this graphic are called climate stripes, a way to visualize global warming/climate change over time. Each bar is one year, from 1850 on the left to 2025 on the right (compared to the baseline, blue is cooler and red is warmer). The dark red arrow pointing down represents how climate change alters the frequency of behavior of extreme weather events. The dark red arrows pointing up represent how these unpredictable circumstances can disrupt access to any cancer control activity, from prevention to survivorship.

Climate solutions are cancer control solutions.
