Climate Change and Exposure to Carcinogens

Human activities that drive climate change also increase the risk of developing cancer. Fossil fuel extraction, processing, transportation, consumption and waste disposal release pollutants, including some that can cause cancer. People living near a fossil fuel infrastructure often have higher exposures, but pollution spreads beyond these areas and increases the cancer burden in the entire population.
