Council for Extramural Research

The Council for Extramural Research is a multidisciplinary panel of mid-level and senior scientists, most of whom have previously served on an American Cancer Society (ACS) Peer Review CommitteeThe Council also includes Stakeholderspeople with a personal experience  with cancer as a survivor or as a family member or caregiver.

Role During Peer Review

The principal responsibilities of the Council are to set the payline for the various committees and to advise the ACS on research policy issues. Members base their recommendations for funding on the relative merit of the grant applications, the amount of available funds and ACS objectives. 

No member of the ACS Board of Directors may serve on a Peer Review Committee or as a voting member on the Council for Extramural Grants.

Council members are being determined and will be announced by the end of 2020.
